Not at all! No one learns to swim who don't get carried away You are the wall that's keeping you from seeing yourself fall into place But I wouldn't look back, it'd be useless The world is such a momentary, undeniable One Ever notice that whenever we forget yourself The ocean starts to drain into the sand? Do you find that when you're quiet What you call yourself is nothing but a habit with a hand? But I wouldn't look back, it'd be useless The ocean's gone, we don't believe in water anymore I wouldn't look back, no Not at all It takes some time to

You had me from "You can do anything that you can think of" So I started to pick and choose in a deliberate manner The greatest minds are those that let their bodies do They are seldom unavailing As for me I've never seen such wasted talent; Who could sing a better song than you? And from the best of all possible images I could come up with For no particular reason I settled on these few Something other than the end is driving me forward

Denouncement 04:46
Life, it is swirling It'll pull you right in if you let it I'm not the only, but I'll be the first To forget the warmth of a welcoming curse You won't find no shelter beneath shoes or a shirt If you never used to just sit there And think any thought that you could Just because you could (It's why you're alive) But did all the skeptics cut you down to size? Did like minds get stifled And snuffed of their fire in the weather? Gone are the days when Your hands are just flowing with life You've passed through the process It's left you a shell But you can pick back up As fast as you fell The secret's inside you: Just keep to yourself If you never Than you won't I'm happier now than I ever have been in my life

I asked And she said, "I don't smoke" I said, "You should really start And there are homeless without blankets even And soldiers bleeding away it all And a billion animals chained and beaten again And we both know there's only One way to put that sort of thing behind us So selfishness aside, Let's try to get out of this place Just a little faster" She said, "Do you have a light?"
6.
"If and when," You could turn to me and say, "This ends, do you think we'll be the same As we already are?" "Shucks, well I'm not certain, I've spent the last ten years of my life Learning to keep my mouth shut, But if I had to answer, I'd say, 'We weren't same to begin with.'" "Well, if and when," You might stare at me and wonder out loud, "This here ends, do you think we'll ever forget about it?" "Hmm. I don't think I'll ever know right now, But if one day I should find myself In a place where I am asked this silly sort of question And I have no choice but to respond, I'm so sure I'll say, 'We won't even have time to remember.'"

about

When I was a sophomore in college in 2008, I woke up the morning of August 1st and said to myself, "You know what, I'm gonna write and record an album in one month," the idea being that constraints are generally good for creativity and that if I didn't give myself a time limit, I'd probably never finish anything in life. "Habits" was the fruit of this self-imposed challenge and, writing this some 10 years later, I'm inclined to modestly declare that it's still pretty fucking good, for something written and recorded in a bedroom by a teenager. Themes I was grappling with at the time were meditation, the nature of thought, and, as always, creativity, in particular the difference between taking a lot of time to get something just right vs. just DOING THE DAMN THANG.

Lemme know what you think of what I consider to be my first "real" album! Shoot me an email, stupid.
